About Wizarding Themes

Yes, I will plan a Harry Potter-themed wedding or event.

But I want to be transparent about what that means.

Harry Potter is a story that has meant a lot to many people, myself included. But I also recognize that the author of the series has used her platform to actively harm and impact marginalized communities, particularly trans people. I don't believe we can separate that reality from the fandom entirely, and I don't want to pretend otherwise.

At the same time, I know that loving a story doesn't automatically mean supporting everything its creator says or does. For many people, Harry Potter is tied to childhood memories, friendships, chosen family, creativity, or a world that helped them through difficult chapters of their lives. I don't think people have to erase those personal connections just because the person who created the story has caused harm.

I will work on Harry Potter and Wizarding World-themed weddings and events, but with some boundaries.

My Wizarding Guidelines

​

1. No licensed merchandise for design.

I will not purchase Harry Potter or Wizarding World-branded or licensed merchandise to use in your event design. We can create a magical, wizarding-inspired experience through original design, color palettes, imagery, props, florals, details, and creative nods without buying licensed products.

2. No money goes toward the Harry Potter or Wizarding World brand.

I will not intentionally direct your event budget toward licensed Harry Potter or Wizarding World products, experiences, or other brand-related purchases.

 

When possible, I would also love for us to establish a donation or fund supporting a trans-supporting organization as part of the event.

3. When possible, acknowledge the bigger picture.

I encourage including a small disclaimer or acknowledgment somewhere appropriate that recognizes the impact of Harry Potter and its author, particularly on trans people. This doesn't have to become the centerpiece of your celebration, but I believe it's important not to completely ignore the real-world context behind the fandom.

These guidelines aren't about telling you what you're allowed to love. They're about making sure I can participate in bringing your vision to life while staying aligned with my own values.

And, as with everything at Fantastical Adventures, I'm constantly learning and growing. I'm not going to pretend I have every answer or that I'll always get everything perfectly right. I'm committed to listening, learning, and adjusting when I need to.
